Install Brushes Into Photoshop

Here is a quick step-by-step tutorial on how to install brushes into photoshop. You might like to check out my abstract art tutorial because that was the main reason I created this.

Most brushes that you download off the web are in .zip format. If they are, you would need winrar to extract the file. If you do not have winrar, you can download it here (don’t worry, it’s free!).

  1. After you install winrar, find the zip file of the brushes. Hopefully you saved it in a safe place. Double click on the file you have downloaded it.
  2. Go to extract file at the top of winrar and find the folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Presets\Brushes. Unrar (or unzip) the .abr files into that folder. You will extract files from the __MACOSX folder ONLY if you have a Apple Mac. Once you do that, you are now able to use them.
  3. Start photoshop now. You will need to load the brushes into photoshop.
  4. Next, select your brush from the tool menu.
  5. Then, go to the top and slide out the arrow.
  6. After that, click on the brush sets you want to add.
  7. Finally, click on Append. (CS2, CS3, and CS4)

If you have anything earlier than CS2, please contact me.
